PROCEDURE
FOR COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT
1.
You will first discuss the following details with the artist at your
home or office:
size, mood, clothes and background.
2. The artist will then take photos of the subject in various
poses. She will then work up two or three small oil sketches
to explore color and composition which she will submit to you for
your preference. SEE BELOW. When a choice has been made, you will sign a
simple contract with the artist.
3. The subject will next sit for a head sketch which takes
about 1½ hours with relaxation breaks every 15 minutes.
Children need only sit for 15 minutes. The artist may take
more photos of the children posing at this time. Commissions
for portraits done solely from a photograph will be accepted by the
artist only at her discretion.
4. The artist will begin the final painting by working from
the sketch and photos. She will roughly block the in the
background and figure from the neck down but bring the head to a
fairly finished stage. If the likeness meets with your
approval, half of the payment is due. If you decide to back
out at this stage there is a kill fee of 25%.
5.
The whole process takes about 3 months if everything goes
smoothly. The balance will be paid upon delivery of the
finished painting. All
payments are made through Nuevo Santander Gallery.
