ERASMO
FUENTES
Erasmo
Fuentes was born in Monterrey, Mexico in 1943. He now resides in
Mapleton, Utah with his wife and five children. He received his
education as a sculptor at Brigham Young University. In 1991, after
winning first prize in an art competition in his hometown of Saltillo, the
governor of the state of Coahuila commissioned Erasmo to do a
monument. This was a 4 figure, 18 foot high monument to
commemorate the 400 year anniversary of the founding of the city.
After it was finished, the monument became the most famous work of art in
the state of Coahuila appearing on calendars, postcards, magazine covers
and tourist guides. Erasmo was later commissioned to do an 8 foot
tall sculpture of a skater to be placed in front of the skating area at
Seven Peaks in Provo, Utah. In 2003, he completed a 7 foot tall
bronze sculpture of two missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints entitled "Anxiously Engaged". This statue
was built by Erasmo together with his son, Alex Fuentes. Erasmo's work is found in art collections throughout the world.
