La Alegoria de la Redencion This retablo depicts Christ surrounded by the symbols of the Passion. Below him, Adam and Eve accept apples from the tree of wisdom. According to legend, the wood of the cross came from a tree that grew from a seed of the tree of wisdom. Allegorically, the scene signifies that Christ, the second Adam, saves the world through the sacrifice of his body. This early rendition of the allegory is unusual in that Christ has been released from the cross instead of hanging from it.
