JASON SCULL Jason Scull is a fourth generation Texan whose family first came to the brush country in the 1840s. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1958. He now lives and works on his family ranch near San Marcos, Texas where cattle and Quarter Horses are raised. Jason began scul pting in 1987. He has been given advice and encouragement during his career by such artists as Bill Moyers, Jack Swanson, Mehl Lawson– all members of the Cowboy Artists of America. Jason's work was the subject of a feature article in the November 1990 issue of Art of the West. His work has been shown at the Cowboy Artists of America Museum in Kerrville, Texas. His work is also in galleries throughout Arizona, California and Texas as well as in private and corporate collections from coast to coast. In 2002, Jason was awarded a Citation of Merit by the Texas Historical Foundation for his research and execution of a life-sized statue of Texas Ranger Jack C. Hayes. In 2004, he unveiled a larger-than-life grouping of three running horses and a colt. "My sculpture is a tribute to a way of life very few will ever know as it slowly slips away from us all," says Jason who grew up on stories of vaqueros and wild cattle told to him by his father and grandfather. It is from his South Texas ranching heritage that Jason Scull draws the inspiration for his art. All of Jason’s bronzes are cast using the lost wax method.
