DONALD YENA
Donald Yena, born a Yankee,
but raised a Texan, came to the Lone Star State at the age of three and
grew up on a farm near Castroville. Surrounded by the historic sites and
houses of the "Little Alsace of Texas" he became personally
familiar with the essence of this great state. Reflected both in his
paintings and in his private collection of antique western artifacts is
this interest in Texas and the Old West. Deciding early in life to become
an artist, Yena entered San Antonio's Vocational and Technical High
School, graduating in 1953. Later he continued his art education at Hunter
School of Commercial Art and through a correspondence course of the Famous
Artist’s School from which he received a Certificate of Completion in
1962. Frequently compared to Remington and Russell, either man would have
been hard pressed to match Yena's sales record in his 23 years of serious
painting. A master in transparent watercolors and oils, his originals are
proudly displayed in the homes and private galleries of collectors all
over the United States.
