Bio

Jessica Monroe is a contemporary painter whose work examines ecological systems, perception, and human relationship to the natural world.

She begins her work outdoors with responsive studies made through close observation and direct encounter with landscape. These studies function as visual research, informing large-scale oil paintings built slowly in the studio through layered color, repetition, and movement. The resulting works sit between abstraction and realism, reflecting an interest in interconnection, exchange, and the lived experience of place rather than fixed representation.

Monroe’s paintings are shaped by an ongoing inquiry into how systems — ecological, cultural, and perceptual — intersect and influence one another. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Art in Fine Art through Falmouth University (UK), where her research explores culture ecology and history as it relates to personal and collective identity and our relationships to the more-than-human world.

Monroe holds a Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern University and has continued her studies at New York University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She lives and works in South Texas.
